Program 1- Certified Environmental Specialist (24 hour Program)

This course is designed for environmental professionals who want to maximize their environmental compliance and ensure public safety in the workplace. This course provides essential knowledge and understanding of EPA regulations relating to hazardous wastes such as the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), RCRA, EPCRA, TSCA and CERCLA.

The course will enable those who successfully complete the qualifications to implement updated environmental compliance programs at a facility. At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to discuss updated major environmental laws and regulation; discuss the purpose and requirements of the Clean Air Act; describe the background and requirements of the RCRA; properly identify different types of hazardous waste according to RCRA regulations; implement hazardous waste management systems to achieve and maintain compliance; apply different features of the Clean Water Act in day-to-day operations; explain regulatory and management issues relating to Storm Water Discharges; and identify the requirements of your Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan.

Program 2 -Green Building and Green Building Design Training Programs

This program has 4 training objectives or paths.  The first training option, Green Infrastructure Guidelines Certification Program, focuses on the development of a long-term view and cost analysis of infrastructural design as it relates to buildings, site assessment, utilities, stormwater/water management, landscape selection, and construction practices.   The second option targets the design/ operation of high performance commercial buildings to maximize operational energy savings; improve comfort, health, and safety of occupants and visitors; and limit detrimental effects on the environment and is the Green Building Commercial Certification Program.   The third training option focuses on Green Remodeling for residential construction, with particular emphasis on building evaluation, deconstruction, handling of hazardous waste, materials recycling and reuse, energy conservation, indoor air quality, use of environmentally safe products, design principles, and system planning and construction best practice. This program is titled the Residential Green Remodeling - Design, Construction, and Certification Program.  The fourth training option is the Residential Green Building Design and Construction Certification Program this course takes a close look at green building in relation to main aspects of design and construction, including issues dealing with sites, landscaping, foundations, frames, exterior finishes, plumbing, appliances, insulation, ventilation, windows, finishes, energy management, and flooring.

Program 3- Energy Auditor Training Program – Residential and Commercial Training Programs

 An energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows in a building, process or system with the objective of understanding the energy dynamics of the system under study.  Typically, an energy audit is conducted to seek opportunities to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output(s). When the object of study is an occupied building then reducing energy consumption while maintaining or improving human comfort, health and safety are of primary concern. Beyond simply identifying the sources of energy use, an energy audit seeks to prioritize the energy uses according to the greatest to least cost effective opportunities for energy savings.

Program 4- Soil Science and Wetland Scientist Training

B.F. Environmental Consultants Inc. provides hands-on courses in soil morphology, soil science, hydric soils, land-based wastewater disposal, stormwater management, and hydrogeology through the Wilkes University, Continuing Education and Environmental Engineering and Earth Science Department.  Courses are offered for continuing education credits, professional development hours, Act 48 credit, and undergraduate/graduate credit.

Program 6- Certified Indoor Environmentalist

Become an indoor air quality or green building consultant - The Course helps you evaluate the healty of a home or living area, diagnose programs, and resolve indoor environmental issues by learning how to conduct indoor environmental assessments.  As part of this training, you will learn basic HVAC, building and construction, and information related to environmental health issues.   The training program helps to prepare you for the CIE and CIEC certifications by the American Council of Accredited Certification (ACAC) and includes a practice exam.  The certification testing is not part of this course, because the ACAC conducts testing at various computerized testing centers, requires certain experience requirements, and certification fees.

Program 7- Administrative Assistant Certification (350 hours)
